Copenhagen Fashion Week: Backstage at Stine Goya

Stine Goya presented a Western-themed collection last night at Copenhagen Fashion Week, inspired by the American landscape photographer Ansel Adams. Goya's reputation in Copenhagen precedes her, and she has quickly become one of the country's most well-known designers since her first collection in 2007. While her prints and colours schemes are always interesting, the actual cut of the clothes seemed just a variation of what's already expected from Goya. Which of course, is not the worst thing.

I met Igor 2 years ago in Paris, and now, back in New York, I've bumped into him 4 times in 4 days in various places across the city, which we're both certain must mean something. The most recent run-in happened as I stepped off the subway in Brooklyn, finding him dancing alongside the band Crooks & Perverts. If you happen to see Igor dancing, please put some money in his hat.

Berlino-Milano: Kinky White Horse at Plastic

Last week was Berlin's turn to take over Milan's Plastic Club. Each month, Andrea and Chris, the creators behind the new monthly party 747 ✈ PLASTIC, invite DJs and musicians from around the world to perform. A new month, a new city. I was invited to cover Berlin edition featuring Kinky White Horse, following previous parties with London's Richard Mortimer of Boombox/Ponystep, and New York's The Misshapes. Kinky White Horse's costume designer Josa Marx accompanied the band, exhibiting his dark and fantastical creations as part of the performance.

Paris Women's Fashion Week: At Comme des Garçons

Every time I'm at Fashion Week, the best looks are always from those who have come to the shows just to experience the environment, hoping to get in without an invitation.  Pablo was dressed all in vintage, but he stood out more than anyone amongst the high-end designs being worn by the editors and buyers standing outside the shows.

New York Fashion Week: At Peter Jensen

I went to New York this week to attend the panel on fashion blog ethics at the "Evolving Influence" conference. Aside from the conference, the only other thing I had time to see was the presentation of Peter Jensen at Milk Studios, where I met Sarah Sophie. Most New York style is, in my humble perspective as an infrequently-visiting foreigner, an illustration in trying too hard to follow the trends along the rules they ostensibly require, resulting in brand-loaded outfits that lack the personal touch. Sarah Sophie is clearly a stand-out. Her personal style is obviously inspired by the 1920s and goes oh so well with her light skin and striking features. Unfortunately, I forgot to ask her where she got that delicate headpiece, but I guess it is vintage.

Copenhagen Fashion Week: Backstage at Henrik Vibskov

I know that there is a tendency for bloggers to be over-enthusiastic about everything they see, but anyone who knows me can say that I'm normally the last person to gush. Henrik Vibskov presented his latest collection, entitled "The Slippery Spiral Situation," and was definitely Vibskov at the best I've ever seen him. His shows are always the highlight of Copenhagen Fashion week, which I think is mostly attributed to his exhibition of not just a line of clothing, but an entire world, non-sensical as it may be. White-painted fingers, strange mirrored spectacles, wooden monastic hats, and a Twin Peaks inspired live soundtrack (with the designer himself playing the drums) all created an otherworldly atmosphere, which Vibskov himself probably couldn't fully comprehend. But what set the show apart from the rest was the craftsmanship of Vibskov's tailoring. As usual, his men's collection was stronger than the women's, but the cut and movement of both collections showed a maturity that was missing in past collections, while still keeping the magic of his quirky worldview intact.

David is the first person I wanted to take a picture of during Berlin Fashion Week. This might be due to the fact, that I spend my time on trade shows to get to know new ad clients for our next magazine, instead of hanging with the fash-pack, wherever they hang in Berlin.
David's sheer endless creativity when it comes to dressing and finding gems of international couture (in this picture he wears several necklaces from different african countries) finally found an output on his personal blog, which I discovered some months ago and became a big fan. He not only documents his outfits, but also publishes long texts including interviews and reviews - so I certainly suggest to subscribe to his feed.
