David Carter, the English Gent who brought us Tart at 40 Winks and Bedtime Stories has an exciting new event at Kettner's in Soho. Who could resist?
‘Champagne and Chansons’ will be a reassuring antidote to the working week, bringing you champagne and entertainment every Wednesday with a different performer each week.
Kettner's has undergone much transformation in recent years so it's wonderful to see it beginning to recapture it's glamorous image with some vintage style events. Opened in 1867 Kettner's patrons were as famous as they were infamous as Edward VII and Oscar Wilde, who all no doubt enjoyed it's convienient location to theatreland.
I was fortunate enough to hear the The Polka Dot Dolls - a delicious 40s style harmonic trio singing everything from Glen Miller to The Andrews Sisters. With such lively tunes it wasn't long before the floor was filled with people, including Mr Carter, trying to emulate the rather wonderful dance moves of the Dolls!
Chansons are at 8 and 9pm giving you the perfect opportunity to have a quick bite in the brasserie, where I sampled the perfectly cooked sea bass.
Talullah Tonic, Ophelia Bitz, The Strumpettes and Mika Doo are already on the line-up over the next few weeks - everyone is going to be talking about it. With free entry and the added incentive of a complimentary cocktail if you dress for the occasion, there is no excuse!
